LAS VEGAS — Former welterweight titleholder Manny Pacquiao will continue his historic rivalry with Juan Manuel Marquez when the two meet for the fourth time on Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, an industry source confirmed to SI.com.

The Los Angeles Times first reported the deal had been completed.

Pacquiao initially wanted to face Miguel Cotto, who he knocked out in a thrilling fight in 2009. However, Cotto declined Top Rank’s offer, choosing instead to face 154-pound titleholder Austin Trout. Over the last week Pacquiao had been considering two possible opponents: Marquez and Timothy Bradley, who beat Pacquiao in a controversial decision last June. Ultimately, the decision came down to money: Pacquiao-Bradley generated an estimated 920,000 while Pacquiao-Marquez III generated 1.25 million.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum confirmed that Pacquiao would return to the ring on Dec. 8 but declined to specify the opponent.

“We reached an agreement,” Arum said. “It’s being drawn up now. As far as who he will be fighting that will be announced on Tuesday. But everything is done, finished.”

Arum hinted that Bradley — who is also under contract with Top Rank — will return to the ring on Nov. 10.

Arum refuted speculation that Pacquiao was considering taking the rest of the year off.

“Not even a remote [possibility],” Arum said.

Marquez is expected to be in Las Vegas this weekend to work as an analyst for the international broadcast off Saturday night’s middleweight title fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Sergio Martinez.

WHAT THE FARK IS WRONG WITH BOXING. just off a great weekend of martinez actually fighting an amazing fight, with an awesome 12th round, we have to come in here, and listen to Pac man make this Shitty deal!! 1.Why is Manny fighting this guy again, hes going to get beaten again, JMMarquez  we all know has won the last 2 at least. and why couldnt he make the fight with Mayweather?  I mean  Manny obviously needs money, otherwise manny would just wait till Floyd would make the deal. Instead the worst promoter/manager in the Biz B. Arum is killing the best fight of all time. I hope he can sleep well at night

To add..maybe both floyd and 50 are working to get more both ways...manny just gave them a free ride...

Conspiracy theory, its just a smoke screen of 50cents that they dont get along, no more with Floyd. Actually thats way for 50 to get a share of the mega fight, both ways or Floyd dont want to share it with 50....

If Manny and Floyd were Mexican this fight would have happened in 2007.

THe bigger question is, who will be judging this fight? Pacquiao better not agree to any future fight if CJ Ross or Duane Ford will be judging. They have proven themselves either incompetent or completely corrupt, and all notable fighters should be boycotting both of them. They are the reason I will never buy another PPV boxing match.

Pacman has nothing to prove from beating Bradley again. If I was him, I would not fight Bradley regardless of the outcome of this fight.

It's a joke that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight isn't happening a matter of money. Why can't the two just split the purse 50-50, like for example, $20 million for you, $20 million for me, or something like that. I think both sides and the promoter are trying to play games. Neither of them can be considered the best until they fight each other...and they know it.

Incorrect Chris. Manny did NOT pick JMM over Cotto. Cotto actually declined the fight because Manny's camp wanted to bring Cotto down in weight again to a ridiculous catch weight.

Who are the suckers who are going to pay for this fight?  We seen it, THREE TIMES!  It is an even fight, but we know Marquez has no shot of winning a decision and at this stage of their careers I doubt either has enough punch to TKO ... so it comes down to the refs which obviously would give it to Pacquiao regardless of what happens.

I wish every Manny and Mayweather fight would be boycotted until they fought each other. I don't like Dana White all that much, but at least he gives the fans the fights they want to see.

Nobody wants to see this, there is only one fight that should happen just get it done! This bullshit about the top guys dodging each other for years on end is ridiculous, this is why MMA has taken over and in another decade boxing will be gone.

Should of taken the Mayweather fight! Money wouldnt be an issue. There are several challeging fights for Manny and a 4th Marquez fight is what you and Bob Arum came up with. Time to abandoned ship Manny before it takes you down with it!

@Leo3jesus christ, Pac lost fair and square....he came out well, thought he had the fight in the bag and backed off....he gave Bradley the last 6 rounds after only winning 5 of the first 6...

    Loki

@DBa rematch with Bradley would make more money since he lost to Bradley...it will pique the interest of the casual fan...Pac vs Marquez is played out with 2 questionable decisions in Pac's favor...

    Loki
    Loki

@doublejtrain68Why would Mayweather pay a guy half the purse when Pac isn't worth it? Pac just lost to Bradley, got beat by Marquez before that despite being awarded the decision, etc...

@JJ2 I think you nailed it on the head there.  This is titled as "IV".  Not "II" or even a "III" (which, in itself, is only acceptable under the pretense of a rubber match).  It's "IV".  In this situation, there shouldn't have even been a "III", because Pacquiao won the first two.  There's even less of a reason to go with a "IV" considering Pacquiao is 2-0-1 here.

I think this speaks, not so much as to a poor decision for a fight, but just the ridiculously poor state of boxing in general.  There's no marquee fights out there, outside of the one that neither guy seems to want, and the fights that are still out there have either already been done or just aren't worth watching.

Boxing is dying a slow, painful death...boxing promoters just seem to be making it worse.  Though, to be honest, I kinda hope boxing sticks around so the promoters don't delve into MMA, which I'm sure is the point in time where that, too, dies (albeit a faster death).

    Loki
    Loki

@GanjamancerMayweather would destroy Pac....any other reason to not have the fight is just an excuse....Pac can't handle Marquez and Mayweather is a bigger, faster, stronger, more accurate version of Marquez...

Bradley needs a Berto. He is a B+fighter. And a big mouth. A polar opposite of Pac.
